The Baths of Caracalla could accommodate more than 1,500 people. In its broadest extension, including fence, the building measured 337x328 feet (including the exedrae to 400 meters), and the only main 220x114 feet, with one room of the steam bath that reached 140 meters, only the Baths of Diocletian are larger. The orientation was centered on the axes, but as in the Baths of Trajan make the most of sunlight, with the calidarium on the south side and a protruding stem.Numerous works of art were discovered during excavations that took place in different eras, but especially in the sixteenth century:The three giant sculptures Farnese, Taurus, Hercules and Flora, now at National Archaeological Museum of Naples, the mosaic with athletes, discovered in 1824, now the Vatican Museums.In addition to the aforementioned tanks Piazza Farnese, recovered from all other tanks are now in the courtyard of the Belvedere (Vatican Museums).
